PSA for artists! (or content creators in general!)

1esk19:

Hey all! I decided to post this because I’ve been seeing it more frequently and thought you all should know.

Say you’re an artist, and you want to have a nice art tag in your header for everyone’s easy access to your lovely creations. Say you tag your art “my art,” with the space. Now, on desktop, you can click the “my art” tag on your art post, and you may notice that url is [yourblogname].tumblr.com/tagged/my-art. Say you then go to edit your header, with something like

<a href=“http://[yourblogname].tumblr.com/tagged/my-art”>My art tag!!</a>

If that is the link you use in your header, it will work fine on desktop, but it will not work on mobile. For this particular tag to work on mobile, you must encode a space between “my” and “art,” as it needs to be an exact match. Obviously urls can’t have actual spaces, so you will use %20 in place of the space.

If you only use single-word tags (camelCase?), good for you! You should be good to go unless you are using special characters like “!” in your tags, in which case you need the ascii code for that character if you want to make a link. Otherwise, “my art” is a very common tag, and one I’ve often tried to peruse by clicking (or tapping, in this case) on your header link only to find it doesn’t work! No posts found matching my-art! That’s frustrating for me and you! Bummer!

tl;dr: If you want everyone to be able to access your art tag link regardless of platform, and you tag your art with “my art,” you must use [yourblogname].tumblr.com/tagged/my%20art.
